Due to insistent public demand, I finallycreated a merchant.
I tell you though, leveling up a merchant is not easy. It is costly… So, this is not a recommended job for Newbies. If you are just gonna beg for 1k in Alberta to job change, please don’t. Pick another job first to farm. Unless, you have a friend to help you with zeny. Or you are rich and just top the f*ck up.
Or if you just wanna be a vendor. Then that’s fine. I can help you with that.
You need 2-handed axe for fast leveling, zeny for job change, zeny to buy equips, zeny to mammonite, zeny to buff, zeny to buy quests… Whatever, YOLO, do whatever you want, but I’m just warning you it’s not easy to level up if you are poor. I could even do two Hunters while you are still trying to job change as a Blacksmith.
For this merchant we will still be build Str, Agi, Dex type. We will add VIT later in game. I will mention it later on Blacksmith Builds Guide. Here is my Suggested Skill Plan using RMS Skills Simulator:
You’ve got 2 points left, it’s up to you if you put it in weight limit or vending. But me, I’d put the 2 points left to vending. You can actually choose not to take Mammonite if you are just going to create a Vending Merchant.
What will make this Merchant VERY HARD for me to level up is to kill mobs that give good Job Level XP because I literally have to make it JOB LVL 50.
That’s pretty hard for someone who uses an axe which has slow animation… and would look boring.
Contrary to Thief which doesn’t have a lot of skills and you could just leave Envenom at Level 3, just to get detoxify. Anyway, it would really be exciting once it becomes a Blacksmith since Adrenaline Rush Buff, buffs me up in real life too.
Anyway, let’s continue…
Plan #1: Search for Good XP Giving Mobs lvl 1-40
This three would be enough for me. I’ll just cycle them so I won’t get bored. Spores, Wolves, Eggyra… Spores, Wolves, Eggyra. Still bored of this sequence? Well, check the other mobs that give good XP.
Considering that Eggyra’s are Ghost types, you would need an elemental axe or mace. Those are expensive. But if you cannot kill Eggyra, just go party at wolf map or spore map until you are job level 50.
Plan #2: Platinum Skills
I am not rich! And most likely, if you are reading this guide, you are also trying to avoid spending money on Mammonite… Not really? Well, fine rich kid, it’s me who just doesn’t want to spend a lot, so we’re going for CART REVOLUTION!!!
Also, contrary to the thief which has only 1 NECESSARY skill (Backslide) which is very easy to do… just use STEAL to Rockers and you will get an extra grasshopper leg, so you can already have 20 grasshopper legs by killing around 10-12 Rockers instead of 20, merchants have two exhausting skill quests. So please don’t complain if Thief Job Change Quest is more tiring than Merchant Job Change Quest because everything else in Merchant Quests are exhausting.
So according to RMS, these are what we need for Merchant Platinum Skill Quests:
Cart Revolution Requirements: Grape Juice x2, Iron x20, Sticky Mucus x30, Fly Wing x5, Tentacle x6
Crazy Uproar: Pearl x7, Banana Juice x1, Mushroom Spore x50
Change Cart: Optional, not doing this… just check the link above…
Buying Store: Easiest, just have LEVEL 1 Vending Skill then talk to this guy.
You must have 10k zeny then you’ll get 5
For Grape Juice and Banana Juice, refer to this juice making quest, or just buy it from people, which ever suits you best. Banana juice is easy to find, grape juice, not yet too common, anyway just hunt a grape and an empty bottle. Poporing and Familiars drop grapes.
Iron – Orc Warriors/Zerom/Goblins, or buy from people
Sticky Mucus – Poring Family Drops This
Fly Wing – NPC
Tentacle – Hydra
Pearl – Myst Case, buy at Al de Baran or farm with your other character.
Mushroom Spore – Poison Spores/Spores
Go and get yourself job changed. The full merchant job quest guide from RMS is here.
Merchant Job Level 1-20
Now since I want you to get addicted with Spores, I’ll show you where you can actually find lots and lots of spores. It’s a hidden location on the map: Payon Field 07. 1 Map Left of Alberta, 1 Map Down, then go right. There’s a secret portal out there.
It’s not even so obvious because it is covered with trees. If you noticed, I rotated the view so I can see it.
Enjoy your Shrooms!
Again… My favorite MOB is Muka. You can skip this and just go for Poison Spores if you don’t have an AXE and you are only using a novice cutter. But I usually get tired of looking at those faces so I went back to Morroc Desert just to kill Mukas. I wore Battle Axe at this time. If you don’t know where to find this mob, it’s the cactus annoyingly screaming in the desert, I mentioned how to find it on the thief guide.
Merchant Job Level 20-40
Geffen Dungeon Basement 1
Middle Tower of Geffen, go downstairs…
Once you hit level 25 or 30 you can go to Poison Spores already considering they give a good amount Job XP per HP which we need the most. They rank 31st best giving Job XP mobs which is still a good rank. Outside 50, I consider them a waste of time unless they drop good stuff.
On level 30, you may now equip TWO-HANDED AXE which is it’s required level, with a damage og 185. I chose not to put STR on my character yet since I want some flee and I don’t wanna miss. Also at low levels, STR bonus damage is not yet that high, so we’ll do it later. BUT… if you are rich, you can actually go PURE STR DEX and level faster in mid game by luring Poison Spores and doing Cart Revolution. Damage can 1 hit those poor mobs, or 2… ONLY IF YOU ARE RICH.
At Job Level 35, you can start going for Cart Revolution Quest. Yeah, 35 is it’s required JOB LEVEL. So, I got 20 Irons from my Assassin, and actually buying from people for 1k or 500z. 30 Sticky Mucus from Poporings in Secret Spore Land, 5 Fly Wings from NPC, 6 Tentacles: I’ll get that tomorrow from hydras, 2 Grapes and 2 empty bottles which is equal to 2 Grape Juices that I’ll do tomorrow.
I may not yet be Level 50, but currently I am level 38. I just maxed out these 2 MONEY Skills so I can farm better with my Assassin.
Same as the swordsman, but his cart revolution consumes lesser SP.
1 Map Down from Orc Dungeon
I tried to explore more of the land of Midgard. You can skip this. You wondered why I put 30-50 above and there’s 40-50 here? That’s overlapping. You can skip this but you can also, do it. I may not yet be level 45 but I can tell that you should go here because I tried it earlier at level 31, and it was giving good XP but the problem was… it consumed too much potions. I leveled from 31-34 and went Poison Spores. There are also in the TOP JOB XP list.
A Quest for Cart Revolution (Job Level 35)
Finally you reached the part where you can finally buy your most important skill: Cart Revolution. Since we don’t wanna waste our zeny throwing gold coins to our enemies, we will have to invest for this skill.
Part 1: Juice Making
You can actually just buy Grape Juice and Banana Juices from NPCs. But I really recommend doing this. You might have some grapes kept in your storage that you want to make use of. Also, people oversell it. So if you are really a thrifty merchant, take 5 minutes to do this quest. Note that Bananas can just be bought on the fruit vendor on Prontera. Just walk a few steps down after getting warped to Prontera by a Kafra.
Part 2: Cart Revolution Inventor
This guy is somehow an asshole. He sometimes asks for Banana Juice so make sure you bring one or two. That’s why I really suggest doing the juice making quest. I think, you also need a cart when asking him how to do it, so make sure you get one from a Kafra. It’s only 850z, if you already took the Pushcart Skill.
Part 3: Maximizing Your Cart Weight
Cart Revolution does only 150% damage without cart content, but it could reach up to 250% when it’s full. This is also a good preparation for the Cart Termination skill. You just have to invest 8000z buying an item with no effect. This is the cheapest way to fill your cart weight as far as I know. If you know another way, comment it below. It’s also pretty damn nice to 1-hit poison spores with flowers (in a cart)…technically.
Get Ready for Battle
This is my current equipment as of now. As I leveled up, I balanced my STR and AGI and kept my DEX at 30+3. I actually bought an andre card with 20 Damage as an investment for my Merchant leveling too. Also added armor since we are preparing from being mobbed.
So I went back to Geffen Dungeon 0 and lured them and kill em’all with just ONE CART REVOLUTION.
Merchant Job Level 40 – 50
Ayothaya (Job 40-50)
Ayothaya is home for the BEST JOB XP Giver mob below Level 40. But of course, great rewards require some investments, so you still have to do the Ayothaya Dungeon Quest.
I already Job Changed into Blacksmith on 7/14/17. What i did was, after grinding in Poison Spores and Male Thief Bugs in Culvert, my friend named IGN: Ninong Yaman confirmed the existence of Leaf Cats which give 0.5 JOB XP per HP. You can get to Job Level 50 in 3 hours grinding there since leaf cats are easy to kill.
UPDATE: Thanks to Magitek for noticing. As you’ve noticed I am using a 2-H Axe which has only 197 Damage per hit on Leaf Cat. Damage is reduced by 50% to Small Type monsters like Leaf Cat. Your Attack will be higher and faster if you are using damascus since daggers deal 100% damage to Small Types. But when you are already a blacksmith, using weapon perfection will make 2-H Axe 100% effective even to small types.
Here’s a picture of my Blacksmith. I will create a Blacksmith Leveling Guide around August until September. So like my page if you wanna get updated. Anyway here’s iRO Wiki’s Classic Blacksmith Job Change Quest. Don’t follow the Quest Description in-game, it show you wrong details. There is no Hugel and Einbroch in this game yet.
- A hybrid VIT-AGI Build Blacksmith mostly used for Experiments and Tests because of Maximize Power Skill. Feel Free to ask for my help if you see me in game 🙂
